Women's Basketball Mounties Welcome Emma Roberts
Mounties announce first recruit of 2022-23 season
The Mount Allison University Mounties women’s basketball team is pleased to announce the addition of Emma Roberts to its roster for the 2022-2023 season. Emma lives in Truro, N.S., where she attends the Cobequid Educational Centre and has played for its varsity basketball team for the past three seasons. Emma has also been a member of Team Nova Scotia for multiple summers including representing the province at three Canada Basketball National Championship events. She will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in the fall.
"Emma brings a strong work ethic and is already accustomed to training and competing at a high level.” said Mount Allison head coach, Ryan Chase. ‘She has consistently sought the opportunity to challenge herself in order to improve. We feel that experience will allow her to fit in well right away and impact our program positively from the start.”
With yet another Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association season interrupted due to COVID19, and with it the recruiting process, things once again looked different from a recruiting perspective. About the decision to join MtA, Emma said “I appreciated the virtual tours and conversations that I was able to have with coach Ryan and my future teammates.” Emma was also drawn to the strong academic reputation of Mount Allison adding, “I was impressed with the excellent academic standards that Mount Allison has to offer, as well as the small class sizes and town.”
The Mounties are looking to continue to improve heading into next season and beyond. “Emma is a tenacious defender and versatile perimeter threat,’ said Chase. ‘She is comfortable handling the ball, catching in space, and making the right play whether that be scoring or finding an open teammate. She uses her athleticism well and is used to competing in tough situations. We are extremely excited to add someone with Emma’s experience, toughness and willingness to help her team be successful to our program and can’t wait for her to join us in September.”
As a first-year student athlete, Emma is looking forward to new challenges. “My goals coming in as a first year are to maintain my academic average and to contribute positively on and off the court. I look forward to meeting everyone and starting this new chapter.”
Please join us in welcoming Emma to our Mounties Family!
