Mounties celebrate graduating seniors at final home game
Saturday, february 24th was not only the final home game for the Mounties women's basketball team, it is also the final regular season home game for a pair of graduating seniors - Erin Steeves (Shediac Cape, NB) and Sarah McGeachy (New Maryland, NB).
The duo arrived at Mount Allison in time for the 2014-2015 season as part of a large recruiting class for Mounties Coach Matt Gamblin. As freshman, both were part of an upstart Mounties squad that earned a berth at the 2015 CCAA Women's Basketball Championship at Vancouver Island University (VIU).
McGeachy, who has twice been an ACAA All-Star, has averaged 7.2 points per game and 3.2 assists so far this season. Steeves has 9.5 points per game and 3.1 rebounds per game.
The Mounties ended up losing to MSVU 78-57 to finish the season at 13-5. Steeves finished the game with 8 points on 3 of 6 shooting while McGeachy finished with 2 points and 3 assists.
Saturday's game marked the end of regular season play but the Mounties and their graduating seniors have some important basketball left on the calendar. The Mounties have clinched 2nd place in the ACAA and will advance directly to the semi-finals at the ACAA Championships next weekend. The Mounties will also host the 2018 CCAA Women's basketball nationals from March 14th-17th, marking the first time in school history that the national championship will be played in Sackville.
