Mounties use fourth quarter rally to defeat Blue Devils 81-77
The Mount Allison Mounties mens basketball team used a 30-point 4th quarter to narrowly defeat the University of King's College Blue Devils 81-77 on the road in Halifax this past Sunday. With the win, the Mounties moved to a record of 1-2 in ACAA play while the Blue Devils fell to 0-4. The two teams will meet again back in Halifax this Sunday in a 4:00pm tip. It will be the second game of a double header weekend for the Mounties as they will play Mount Saint Vincent Mystics Saturday in a 5:00pm start.
Against Kings, the Mounties were not sharp and lacked the energy displayed by the hometown Blue Devils trailing all three quarters before pulling out the road win in the games final minutes. According to Coach Steve Chapman, the Mounties were fortunate to come out on top stating, "we did not have a healthy week of practice nor the energy that Kings displayed on their home court. Our guys rallied in the fourth to get the win but we need to be much better this weekend when we head back to Halifax for two really tough games." For the hometown Blue Devils, who led 42-38 at half, it was Brendan Morris scoring 17 points while teammates Xavier Buckley added 16. ACAA league leading scorer Noah McCarthy had 27 points for the Mounties while Jonas Munroe had 13 and Minwoo Park and Emanuel Adugna with 12 each.
The Mounties have 5 games over the next two weeks to complete the first part of their season before the exam break and Christmas Holidays. This Saturday the Mounties will be at MSVU for a 5:00pm start and then Sunday back at Kings for a 4:00 tip off. On November 23 the Mounties will travel back to Crandall to complete their suspended game from Nov 6 in a 7:00pm start before their final game before the break playing at the UNBSJ Seawolves Nov 27 at 4:00pm
Go Mounties!
