Tigers Get Road Win Over Mounties
(Sackville, NB) The Dalhousie Tigers were in Sackville on Sunday night to take on the Mount Allison Mounties in AUS Women's hockey action.
The first period was back and forth early with both teams getting scoring chances. The Tigers were able to get on the board first off the stick of Leah MacSween. Both teams traded penalties with neither able to capitalize on the power play. The first period ended 1-0 for Dalhousie.
The Mounties took an early penalty to start the second frame but were able to kill it off with some big saves from goaltender Skye McDonald. Jill Imeson made the score 2-0 for Dalhousie off a great pass from Daisy Varga. The Mounties responded nine seconds later with a goal from Hailey Simoneau off a feed from Ashlyn Zaharia. The rest of the period was played evenly, with both sides getting chances from dangerous areas. Abby Wamboldt made the score 3-1 for the Tigers with 18 seconds left, which is how the period ended.
The Mounties got some sustained pressure throughout the third period but had a hard time beating Dalhousie goaltender Grace Beer. Dalhousie had a power play mid way through the period but could not find the back of the net. The Mounties pulled the goalie after Dalhousie took a penalty of their own but couldn't capitalize on the 6 on 4. The Tigers made the score 4-1 on an empty netter from Leah MacSween. The final score was 4-1 Dalhousie
Dalhousie (15-7-4) is back on the ice Friday, February 14th on the road against Moncton, puck drop is at 7:00pm. Mount Allison (1-24-1) is back at home on Wednesday, February 12th against UPEI, puck drop is at 7:00pm.
