Mounties Drop Alumni Night Game to X-Women
The Mount Allison Mounties women's hockey took to the ice at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre on Saturday night, playing host to the StFX X-Women on Alumni Night at the rink. Fresh off their 2-1 shootout win over the Dalhousie Tigers the previous night, the Mountie women were looking to extend the streak and protect home ice once again.
It was the visiting X-Women that looked to spoil the party however as Mackenzie Lothian found the back of the net on the powerplay 5 minutes into the game to give StFX a 1-goal advantage. Despite multiple powerplay opportunities for the Mounties in the first period, they were unable to find an equalizer and headed to the first intermission trailing by 1 goal to none.
StFX would add to their lead 6 minutes into the second period as Kalle Hastman doubled the visitor's advantage. The Mounties were recipients of two powerplay opportunities for the second period in a row, however they were unable to capitalize, and the teams headed to the final frame with the score line at 2-0 in favour of the X-Women.
Oceane Asham would bring the Mounties back into the game with just over 7 minutes to go in the game as her wrist shot brought the home side to within 1. Despite the valiant effort and pressure put on the X-Women by the Mounties, the visitors were able to find an empty net goal courtesy of Terryn Mozes to seal the victory for StFX by a score of 3-1.
