Mounties Celebrate First Win of Miles-Abbott Era

(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mount Allison Mounties women's hockey team were back in action Friday evening at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre taking on the UPEI Panthers, looking for their first win of the season.

It was the visitors who struck first with just under four minutes left in the first period as Sophie Bujold (Riverview, NB) found the back of the net on the Panther powerplay, and the visitors would carry the 1-0 advantage into the first intermission.

A fiercely contested second period saw multiple penalties and opportunities for both sides, but neither team was able to find a goal as the teams headed to third period with the score still 1-0 in favour of UPEI.

With just over 3 minutes to go in regulation, the home Mounties would finally break through and even the score as Katie Bouwman (Oakville, ON) found the back of the net off a rebound to make the score 1-1. 

The final few minutes of regulation and five minutes of 3-on-3 overtime were not enough to settle this one as the teams headed to a shootout. Three great saves from Hanna Pagdato (Winnipeg, MB) gave the Mounties a shot and it was Chelsea Krahenbil (Winnipeg, MB) putting away the winning goal to give the Mounties their first win under Head Coach Addie Miles-Abbott. Hanna Pagdato received AUS Player of the Game honours for her performance in the Mounties goal.

Mount Allison (1-10-2-1) are on the road in Halifax tomorrow as they take on the Saint Mary's Huskies, puck drop for that one is set for 3:00pm. UPEI (4-10-0-1) are also back in action tomorrow, November 25th as they head to Fredericton to take on the UNB Reds with puck drop set for 7:00pm.
