(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mount Allison Mounties women's hockey team took to the ice for a rare Thursday evening matchup with the Université de Moncton at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre.
On their third power play of the period the visiting Aigles Bleus opened the scoring courtesy of a wrist shot from Notre Dame de Lourdes, NB native Shani Rossignol. A late power play for the Mounties generated chances but not the elusive first goal, as U de M took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The home Mounties would get themselves back on even terms late in the second period as a power play goal from Reese Chuback (Headingley, MB) made the score 1-1, which would remain heading into the second intermission.
Maritza Labrie (Saint-Quentin, NB) broke the deadlock for Moncton midway through the third period and Erica Plourde (Pigeon-Hill, NB) would add another off the ensuing faceoff to put the Mounties at a 2-goal disadvantage. U de M would add a fourth goal late as Lianne Desforges (Clarence-Rockland, ON) put away a rebounded opportunity to seal the victory for les Aigles Bleus. Maritza Labrie received AUS Player of the Game honours for her winning goal.
Moncton (8-3-0-2) play their next game on the road in Fredericton on Sunday, November 19th against the St. Thomas Tommies with puck drop set for 3:00pm. Mount Allison (0-9-2-1) also play their next game on the road in Fredericton against the St. Thomas Tommies on Saturday, November 18th with puck drop set for 7:00pm.
