(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mounties women's hockey team took to the ice at Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre Saturday night for their home opener against the Université de Moncton. The Mounties were looking to bounce back from two road defeats to begin their season.
The visitors struck first with two power play goals, one courtesy of Shani Rossignol, and the other coming off the stick of Elodie St. Jacques. Oceane Asham (Portage La Prairie, MB) found the back of the net on the power play late in the first to make the score 2-1 at the first intermission.
The Mounties would tie the game midway through the 2nd period with the goal coming from Alisha Donovan (Brockville, ON) and assisted by Chelsea Krahenbil (Winnipeg, MB).
The teams started the third period deadlocked at 2 apiece before Emilie Comeau scored on the power play for Moncton. The Mounties were not done yet though as Island Bernard-Docker (Canmore, AB) tied the game yet again on the power play. It was Martiza Labrie of Moncton who was the hero of this one however with her goal in the final minute of play putting her team over the top by a score of 4-3.
Moncton (3-0-0-1) is back in action at home on Friday, October 20th against StFX, while the Mounties (0-3-0-0) will take the ice again on the same date against the UNB Reds. Both puck drops are set for 7:00pm.
