Mounties drop home Winter semester opener to Tommies

(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mounties were looking to ring in the year at home as they played host to the visiting St. Thomas Tommies. Looking to build off the performance from last evening, the Mounties would end up losing 5-1 to the Tommies.
Both teams came out hard in the first as they pressed to take the early lead. Mounties goalie Kaitlyn Evelyn (Courtice, ON) standing tall to keep the game scoreless after posting 15 saves.
The second period saw lots of offensive action as the game started to open up. The Tommies would strike first with a goal from Amy Dvernichuk (Regina, SK) as she collected the rebound and made no mistake. Dvernichuk would add her second of the game moments later to make it 2-0 Tommies.
Mount Allison would get on the board with a powerplay marker of their own as Chelsea Krahenbil (Winnipeg, MB) netted her fifth goal on the season.
Subway Player of the Game Amy Dvernichuk (Regina, SK) would complete the hat-trick in the third with a beautiful goal. Not to be outdone, her teammate Ekaterina Pelowich (Stouffville, ON) would add two goals of her own including a tremendous effort to give her team a 5-1 lead.
Claire Nimegeers (Wilcox, SK) added some offense from the back-end as she dished out two assists. St. Thomas goaltender Caroline Pietroski (Etobicoke, ON) was a force in net turning away 25 of 26 shots.
St. Thomas (6-11-1-0) face their cross-campus rivals UNB Reds on January 11 for a 7 p.m. start time.
Mount Allison (2-15-0 1) for their part will start the homestand against the Aigles Bleues on January 13 at 7 p.m.
