Mounties with great showing in loss to Tommies
(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mounties Women's Hockey team hosted the Tommies in what was the fourth meeting this year between these two teams, including pre-season. It was St. Thomas that prevailed with a score of 4-2.
The first goal of the contest came courtesy of an Emma Wilson (Midhurst, ON) wrap-around that fooled sophomore goalie Hannah Pagdato (Winnipeg, MB) who was playing in what was her first ever game as a Mountie. Pagdato would go on to stop 34 of 38 shots.
St. Thomas would continue to apply pressure and be rewarded with a powerplay goal at the 12:40 mark of the first period off the stick of Claire Nimegeers (Wilcox, SK).
Mount Allison would answer with a powerplay goal themselves after Tallon Stephenson (Lloydminster, AB) fired a rocket in the top right corner.
Taking a two-goal lead into the second period the Tommies would continue to get the puck to the net and were rewarded with a third goal after Trinity Webber (Brampton, ON) tucked in the rebound in tight.
Moments later Subway Player of the Game Tallon Stephenson (Lloydminster, AB) would make no mistake on a two-on-one with her second snipe of the game. She finished the game with two goals on five shots. Mount Allison rookie centre Hailey Simoneau (Milton, ON) with the primary assist adding to an already great start to her Mounties career.
St. Thomas would go up again by two after Emma Wilson (Midhurst, ON) chased down the puck and deked her way into the Mounties zone for a great individual effort. Wilson would finish with three points on the night including two goals and one assist.
Mount Allison (0-8-0-0) will travel to Moncton to take on the Aigles Bleues on November 2 at 7 p.m.
St. Thomas (4-4-0-0) for their part will play cross campus rival UNB for a 7 p.m. game on November 4.
