The Mount Allison Mounties were defeated 3 - 2 by the UPEI Panthers in AUS women's hockey action at the MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown on Friday Night.
The Mounties opened the scoring at 00:22 of the 1st period when Lauren Steele scored unassisted, giving them a 1 - 0 lead into the locker room after the first period.
The Panthers tied the game early in the 2nd period when Jolena Gillard scored with an all-out effort from Sophie Bujold and Sophie Vandale at the 4:24 mark. Later in the 2nd period, the Panthers scored two more goals from Ashley McCutcheon on a power play at 12:52 and Taylor Gillis at 13:54 with 6 minutes remaining in the 2nd period, and at the end of the period, the Panthers had a 3 -1 lead.
In the 3rd period, the Mounties responded early when Molly Baxendale picked up the UPEI turnover and went in on Shaylin McFarlane. Baxendale scored the game's final goal on a power play at 03:16 with Rory Aiken & Chelsea Krahenbil, which brought the final to 3 - 2.
McFarlane made 15 saves on 17 shots for UPEI while Hanna Pagdato kicked out 29 of the 32 shots she faced in goal for the Mounties.
