Mounties beat 2nd ranked team in the nation Mystics
(SACKVILLE, NB) Mount Allison hosted Mount Saint Vincent this evening in what was a highly touted ACAA Women's Basketball matchup. This game lived up to the hype as both teams battled for 40 minutes and it almost was decided by a buzzer beater however, the Mounties would go on to win by a score of 60-58 and push their winning streak to six games.
Fifth-year stalwart Abby Miller (Mt. Denison, NS) led the way for the Mounties with 18 points, 12 rebounds and four steals. Mount Allison would get out to a quick start in large part to Torrie Janes (Fredericton, NB) who scored seven of her 11 points in the opening quarter – she would add seven assists, six rebounds and four steals. Second-year guard Kaitlyn Simard (Timmins, ON) followed-up Friday night's strong performance with yet another as she added 17 points on 6-of-9 field goal shooting.
The Mystics relied on a balanced attack as all five starters gave them good minutes. Alisha McNeil (Alder Point, NS) registered a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Coming off the bench and producing a spark was Courtney Smith (New Glasgow, NS) as she went for 11 points and a perfect 3-for-3 from the three-point line.
Mount Allison (8-2) will travel to Fredericton to take on the Tommies on February 3 at 6 p.m.
MSVU (9-2) for their part travel to Moncton on February 3 to take on Crandall at 6 p.m.
