Mounties pick up their first home loss of the 2nd half to Holland
On Friday, the Mount Allison women's basketball Mounties lost 80- 68 to the Holland Hurricanes in front of the Seniors' night's crowd at the McCormack gymnasium. This was their first loss of the second half of the season.
The game was push-and-pull from the opening whistle, as both teams traded leads through the 1st and 2nd quarters until ultimately arriving at the halftime break with the Holland Hurricanes having a 40 - 45 lead into the locker room.
A big third quarter for the Holland Hurricanes gave them a 10-point lead heading to the 4th quarter, where they were able to hold on for victory. The Mounties spent the rest of the game working to cut into that lead, outscoring the Holland Hurricanes 19 - 16 in the 4th quarter but were unable to close the gap.
Abby Miller and Maddie Greatorex led the way for the Mounties with 22 points and 9 rebounds each.
As for the Holland Hurricanes, Lisa Bolander led with 21 points, 4 rebounds and assists, and 1 steal. Grace Bennett and Karla Benitez chipped in, too, with 18 points each and 7 and 8 rebounds, respectively, for the Holland Hurricanes.
The Mounties will return to action against the Holland Hurricanes again when the Holland Hurricanes host them at home on Thursday, March 3rd.
