Women's Basketball Mounties Annouce First Recruits of 2020-2021 Season
The Mount Allison Mounties Women's Basketball program is pleased to announce two additions to its roster, for the next ACAA season (2020-2021). Both, Julie Murray and Lauren Furlong, have committed to the garnet and gold starting in the Fall 2020 season.
Julie hails from Riverview, New Brunswick and is a key member of the Riverview High School Royals varsity basketball team. She has plenty of experience, having represented the Province of New Brunswick at the U15 Canadian National Championships (2017). She continued to be a member of the Basketball New Brunswick program as a member of the U16 team in 2018.
When speaking with Julie about her decision to attend Mount Allison University, Julie said "I chose MtA because I know how successful their Science Programs are, Sackville is the perfect distance away from home so it'll be easy for my family to come watch me play, and when I came down to practice with the Mounties, all of the girls were very welcoming to me; which definitely helped me make a decision."
Lauren is no stranger to Mount Allison, having grown up in Amherst, Nova Scotia. She has attended Mount Allison basketball camps, and she has practiced and played plenty of times at the Mounties Athletics Centre. Lauren attends Amherst Regional High School and plays basketball with the Spartans Basketball Club, coached by our women's basketball Mounties Assistant Coach, Tom Skabar.
Lauren's response when asked about her decision to attend MtA, she said, "as one of the top undergraduate Universities in Canada, Mount Allison stands above and beyond, plus the fact that it is located in a close knit, smaller community with an amazing reputation has definitely helped make my decision."
The women's basketball Mounties Head Coach, Ryan Chase, had this to say about the new additions: "We are thrilled to have Julie and Lauren joining our program. They both bring a commitment to the classroom, extensive playing experience, athleticism, and an outstanding work ethic that will serve our program well moving forward. Most importantly we know we are adding two student-athletes with outstanding character that will represent our program and school to the best of their abilities, wherever we go."
Please join us in welcoming Julie and Lauren to our Mounties Family!
