Women's Basketball Mounties Lose Heartbreaker to Hurricanes
In a game fought down to the wire on Sunday, our Mounties women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking loss, 57-60, to the Holland Hurricanes.
First-year basketball Mountie, Fredericton's Sophie Trail, nailed 17 points, 2 steals, 2 assists and 6 rebounds! Rookie Andrea Oke closely followed with 13 points, plus ripping down 7 rebounds and 1 assist. Another Mountie on fire is second-year standout, Abby Miller, who took down 9 rebounds and added 6 points while fourth-year guard Karly Buckingham of Moncton, NB, grabbed 7 rebounds and 7 points. Maddie Greatorex and Sophie Hartlen each added 4 points and 5 rebounds, Ryanne Belyea 3 points, 2 rebounds, Hannah Cahill of Fall River, NS 4 rebounds, third-year Mountie Sophie Hartlen rounded out the points with 4, plus 4 rebounds and second-year Bethany Warwick brought down 2 rebounds of her own.
The HC Hurricanes high scorer of the game is Kassandra Little, with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Notably, Sophie Atkinson of the Hurricanes took down 9 offensive and 9 defensive rebounds in the game plus she completed 4 steals and scored 12 points.
