2023 Jack Scholz Invitational Recap
The Mounties swam to a fifth-place finish in the combined team standings at Acadia's Jack Scholz Invitational. This was the first meet of the 2023-2024 Atlantic University Sport swimming season. The Mounties also took fifth place in both the men's and women's individual standings.
In Saturday's opening session, fourth-year Sebastian Cariaga and second-year Aaron McDonald led the men's team with 7 points for their placements in the 100m freestyle and 200m breaststroke. On the women's side, first-year Rachel Chan led the women's team with 7 points as well in the 200m breaststroke.
Saturday's session was wrapped up with the always exhilarating 4x50m medley relays. The Women's A Relay, consisting of teammates Makayla Churchill, Rachel Chan, Julianne Levesque, and Kenzie Power, swam to a 5th place finish. The Men's A Relay with swimmers Andrew Kuiper, John Roberts, Sebastian Cariaga and Ian Steinwall Pennington swam to a 4th place finish after out-touching UNB's Men's A Relay by 0.9 seconds and only 1.1 seconds behind 3rd place.
Sunday's session wrapped up with, second-year Lauren Griffin-Lepine leading the way on the Women's Team after swimming to an 8th place finish in the 800m freestyle. On the men's side, third-year Andrew Kuiper led the team with a 7th place finish in the 200m backstroke. Not far behind was teammate, Aaron McDonald who placed 8th place in the 200m backstroke. Sunday's session was completed with a 4x100m freestyle relay. Both teams took home 5th place.
