Amby Legere Competition Recap
This past weekend the Mounties Swim team made their first competitive appearance of the season at the Amby Legere Meet at UNB, competing against swimmers from UNB, Dalhousie and Acadia. With 17 rookies on the roster this season, the team shows huge potential for the upcoming four years.
Jordan Thomas was the lead scorer for the Mounties, collecting 49 points with a strong 1st place finish in the Women's 200 Breaststroke, and two third place finishes in both the 50 & 100 Breaststroke.
Our strong rookie line up also included scores of 27 points from Makayla Churchill, whose best placing was in the 800 Freestyle, where she showed very strong promise for the distance events by laying down a fast early season time and executing her race strategy extremely well. Lauren Griffin-Lepine scored 23 points demonstrated versatility in the breaststroke and medley events.
Racking up 19 points, 4th year swimmer Abigail Flann was our third top scorer on the women's side, highlighted with a third place in the 200 Butterfly. Abi's race in this challenging event was her first attempt at the event in several years, and she will be making an appearance again in this event to contend in upcoming competitions.
On the Men's side, John Roberts was the top scorer with 32 points, followed closely by fellow rookie Aaron McDonald, whose 31 points included a top placing of 3rd in the 800 Freestyle.
Mounties placed 4th on both the Men's and Women's side and are looking to improve their standing at the next competition at Acadia in two weeks' time with the return of several of our injured/ill athletes to the pool.
