(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mount Allison Mounties men's soccer team returned to Alumni Field for their first regular season action of the year under the lights against the Acadia Axemen.
Both teams traded chances in the first half with Acadia having the better of the chances but neither of the teams were able to get on the scoresheet as the score remained 0-0 after 45 minutes.
The Mounties and the Axemen would both have their opportunities in the second half, but it was a late free kick from Paul Togbo that bounced in the box and found the foot of Jack Bennett who put the Mounties up 1-0 in the 89th minute – a scoreline that would stay for the remainder of the match and give Mount Allison their first win of the season.
Mount Allison (1-0-0) will head out on the road to Fredericton for their next match against the UNB Reds on Sunday, September 1st with kick-off set for 3:15pm. Acadia (0-1-0) will return home to Wolfville as they take on Universite de Moncton on Sunday, September 1st, kick-off in that one is set for 7:15pm.
