Mounties earn another split in league action
Mounties earn another split in league action. Host Crandall and top ranked Holland this weekend.
The men's Mounties earned another split in ACAA action last week moving into 3rd place with just 3 weeks remaining in regular season play. Before a home crowd last Saturday, the Mounties had one of their most disappointing outings of the season losing to the Dal AC Rams. A poor defensive effort and an ice cold shooting performance led to a surprising but well earned win for the Rams, 99- 82. James French had 20 points and 16 rebounds in a losing effort while Aram Currie and Brett Curtis each added 17 points.
On Sunday a refocused Mountie squad hit the road to play the host UNBSJ Seawolves in a must win situation and came away with a 83-72 win. It was the Mounties defense, ranked 2nd best in the ACAA, that propelled the Mounties to an early 21-9 lead and they never looked back. Aram Currie continued his scoring touch leading the Mounties with 21 points while Mack Chisholm had his best performance since Christmas, adding 20 points and 12 rebounds. Jeshua Becker came off the bench to score 16 points and 6 rebounds. Brett Curtis provided his season average of 13 points and helped push the Mounties league record to 10-6, good enough for 3rd place in the ACAA.
The Mounties now face their stiffest challenge of the year playing 3 games in 5 days including travelling to Charlottetown Wednesday night to face the CCAA's number one ranked team in the country before hosting their arch rival Crandall Chargers Saturday and then playing Holland at home Sunday. The Mounties are hoping to have a great hometown turnout for these important league contests.
The Mounties then round out their schedule before ACAA playoffs with a road game at Kings College the following week before hosting the St. Thomas Tommies in their last home game of the year on Feb 23.
