MOUNTIES WIN! Advance to ACAA Championship Sunday
It's been a long time since the McCormack gymnasium has been jumping like that. With 700 frenzied basketball fans rocking all night, the host Mount Allison Mounties defeated the Crandall Chargers 83-59 in ACAA semi-final action.
With the win the Mounties advance to face the defending champion Holland College Hurricanes in Sunday's championship game at 3:30PM. The win also earns the Mounties a berth in the 2017 CCAA Men's basketball National Championship to be played at Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI.
The home Mounties got the crowd fired up early as they jumped out to a 25-15 first quarter lead. Sophomore Mountie Jeshua Becker electrified the crowd with a half court 3 pointer as time expired to give the Mounties a 44-31 advantage at the break. Crandall made a push early in the 3rd quarter but the Mounties quickly pushed their lead once again and held a 64-44 advantage after 3 quarters.
ACAA 1st team All-Star and Rookie of the Year Thomas LeGallais had 18 points to lead the Mounties. ACAA 2nd team All-star Brad Fuller had 12 points for the Mounties while freshman Seongwoo Park also had 12 off the bench for the winning side. Park was named player of the game for the Mounties. All in, the Mounties got 30 points from their bench, which Mack Chisholm and Rodreke Joseph each putting up 9 points.
Crandall got 19 points from league MVP Thomarcus Nix and 19 points from diminutive Trey David in the losing cause for the Chargers. ACAA Defensive Player of the Year Brandon Fields was named player of the game for the Chargers.
