Mounties win final tournament before ACAA Championships
After a hard-fought battle, the Mount Allison Mounties (MTA) came out on top of their final regular season tournament with their first tournament win since 2018. This win came by way of an 11-point margin win over the second place University Kings College (UKC) team.
MTA’s success was led by rookie and MTA’s athlete of the week, Josef Gonzalez, who went 6-0 in the tournament. Gonzalez’s performance included a win in Men’s A singles and represents MTA’s first win in the category this year. On the ladies' side, a strong performance was delivered by rookie Hayley Wood who went 5-1 in the tournament. This included Wood playing mixed doubles with very little experience and her team’s only loss went to three sets against a strong UKC team.
Overall the Mounties put together a great team effort, which included four first place finishes and four second place finishes of the ten categories played. The team’s hard work and dedication paid off in this tournament, resulting in 78 of the possible 100 points being awarded to the Mounties.
As the regular season wraps up, this win will provide some great momentum for the Mounties as they head into their Championships and National Qualifiers tournament on February 15th and 16th to be hosted by UKC.
